Weiss WMD 30LV Milling Machine DRO Installation

    You should also put the toolpost on a surface plate, mine was wobbling due to that the material had grown around the dowel holes, I had to surface grind 0.07mm to make it sit flat. So a good check to make to maximise rigidity and accuracy.

    • @JimmysCanal
      @JimmysCanal 3 дня назад

      Thanks for the tip! I'm sure with careful grind on the surface plate will make a huge difference from what it is at the moment. Thanks again! All the best Jimmy

      @JimmysCanal That could work but try not to remove material between the holes until it's getting flat and if you want to measure how parallell it is prop it up on 3 pieces of shim stock between the holes on the top side, then it's sitting flat and hopefully perpendicular to the surface plate.

    Funny, I need to make the same repair on my lathe. It's not exactly the same model but a similar design. I suspect that the joker* who rigged the machine for installation put a strap against the shaft and applied too much force. It functions well but leaks. * that would be me 😂

    I think you are tightening the post in the wrong direction. I THINK on these you are supposed to push away from you to tighten. I also think using the end of the compound as a reference is problematic. A better way would be to test the length of the compound, and an even better way would be to mount an indicator on the tool post, and sweep a test bar moving the indicator with the compound.

  • @philipdenner8504
    @philipdenner8504 Месяц назад

    i have found that when you tighten the tool holder they tell me to tighten it anticlockwise and not to pull it clockwise, apparently it holds it better.

      Hello PJ, I was thinking for quite some time now, what to reply to you. A 'Thank you' seems too simple, with a 'very much' beside it, sounds a little better, but not exactly what I want to express. I'll make a try, but I don't know if I'll manage it. So, besides the 'Thank you very much' I'll say that it gives me great pleasure hearing an expert engineer saying, that what I designed, adapt or copied throughout the entire project, has been done the right way. Take care my friend Dimitris

    Why do you need to have to tool holders so accurate? It's a 40 position holder, so you just move it one tooth. Just machine each holder in the lathe to make them perfect.

    • @JimmysCanal
      @JimmysCanal 2 месяца назад

      Because the particular seller who also states that upon his improved designs the Multifix tool post and holders are built so very accurate. He puts his name on the tools and praise himself and his tools through his site and YT channel for being the best on the market - besides that he doesn't offer what he states, his tools are very expencieve. I regret the moment I bought these tools from that seller, paying so much money for something that don't worth; with half the price I would bought something similar from ebay knowing that wouldn't be perfect but at least it would be cheap! If you sir, was in that same position as me what you would think of? that there are 40 different positions to put the tool on? or that you paid so much money for something that its not so accurate as the seller states? Thank you for the comment! All the best Jimmy

Yes, it was really satisfying especially when I saw that this tiny drill press managed to drill a hole on a 6mm thick piece of steel (something that I'm not going to do it again). Both Kosta's did fantastic work, for which I have thanked them many many times. Without their help this project would be really difficult to finish into that level.
